The stunning and original ivory/white Rolex signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards. The raised gilt hour batons and gilt dauphine hands provide a beautiful contrast to the dial and match perfectly with the case and catch the light beautifully – as we have tried to show in the accompanying photographs. The very high grade 17 jewel manual wind ‘Super Balance’ movement has just been serviced and is running beautifully. To finish the watch we have added a new, high quality dark brown croc grain brown leather strap with a gold plated buckle. This is an outstanding example of this iconic watch..
The Dial The original Rolex signed ivory/white dial is beautifully understated and elegant. The raised gilt hour batons and original gilt dauphine hands contrast beautifully with the dial and match perfectly with the gold case. The outer seconds ring, very impressively, is finely subdivided into fifths of a second and exactly matches the progress of the seconds hand, as it progresses around the dial!.!.!.!
The Case The professionally polished solid 18ct gold case is in excellent condition with only the smallest signs of wear – the press fit bubble caseback carries the desirable Rolex Crown and shows no signs of been inscribed. The caseback is in almost perfect condition with just one very small ding. The minimal swept back lugs are most elegant as is the original, correct for the period, Rolex crown. The case measures just over 34mm wide, excluding the winding crown and 40mm, including the lugs. The inside caseback is signed carries the early Rolex legend and is signed ‘R’ ROLEX GENEVA SWISS and has the case reference of 238 ‘3745’. It is appropriately hallmarked for 18ct gold. The case back also bears the number 683256 faintly but clearly and dates this watch to 1950.
The Movement The very high grade Rolex signed manual wind movement has just been serviced and is running beautifully. It is signed ‘ROLEX GENEVA’, ‘SWISS’, ‘PATENTED SUPERBALANCE’ and ’17 JEWELS’.. These movements are very strong and reliable and seem to want to run forever!
The Strap & Buckle High quality brown crocodile grain padded leather strap and matching gold plated after market Rolex buckle.
Box and Papers There are no original papers with this watch, however the numbers on this watch match up dating the watch to 1950 and written receipt, and a separate insurance valuation for the (higher) replacement value will be provided at the time of sale.
The original vintage Rolex box shown in the photographs is included only if the ‘Buy It Now’ price is paid.
Warranty*** likewise, 12 months warranty is only included if the full price is paid.
In Conclusion This is an extremely desirable and highly collectable vintage watch from horology’s most famous name which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy. As every year goes by the world market for vintage Swiss gold watches grows almost exponentially and so the law of supply and demand means prices climb ever higher almost month by month!
