Description

Here we have a most elegant gentleman’s Rolex Precision dress watch in 18K solid yellow gold in excellent all round condition. Note the watch is medium sized for for the 1950’s period at 33mm diameter not including the Rolex crown. The watch has been thoroughly cleaned, checked and serviced ready use. Along with a new strap this watch has its very rare original Rolex 18ct solid gold buckle included.

The high grade 17 jewel manual wind ‘Super Balance’ movement has just been serviced and is running beautifully. To finish the watch and the original 18K buckle we have added a new, high quality dark brown croc grain brown leather strap to finish the watch. This is an outstanding example of this classic watch.

The Dial

The ‘Rolex Precision’ signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard. The raised gilt Roman numerals, original thin ‘stick’ gold hands and small subsidiary seconds dial are so typical of the early ’50s period and look simply fabulous. While it is gold on gold, the dial manages to be very readable due to differing the reflective properties. It is again is beautifully understated and elegant .

The Case

The professionally cleaned and polished solid 18ct gold case is in excellent condition with only the slightest signs of wear – the press fit bulbous case-back clicks into place very satisfyingly and shows no signs of been inscribed. The caseback is in almost perfect condition with just one very slight impression which is too difficult to show in a photograph. The minimal swept back lugs are most elegant as is the original, Rolex crown. The case measures just over 33mm wide, excluding the winding crown and 39mm, including the lugs. The inside caseback is signed carries the early Rolex legend and is signed ‘R’ ROLEX GENEVA SWISS and has the case reference of 222 ‘4655’. It is appropriately hallmarked for 18ct gold.

The Movement

The very high grade Rolex signed hand wound movement has just been serviced and is running beautifully. It is signed ‘ROLEX GENEVA’, ‘SWISS’, ‘PATENTED SUPERBALANCE’ and ’17 JEWELS’.. These movements are very strong and reliable and seem to want to run forever! It is very clean and with regular servicing every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run for another lifetime!

The Strap & Buckle

A very high quality, new brown lizard skin, padded strap is fitted with a very rare and valuable, original 18K Gold Rolex buckle. These buckles alone achieve £200 on ebay.

Box and Papers

There are no original papers with this watch. However the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct and date the watch to 1953. A written receipt, with a separate insurance valuation for replacement value will be provided at the time of sale.

In Conclusion

This is an extremely desirable and highly collectable vintage gold watch from horology’s most famous name and this will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy. As every year goes by the world market for vintage Swiss gold watches grows almost exponentially and so the law of supply and demand means prices climb ever higher almost month by month!
