Here we have a simply beautiful and highly elegant, fully restored 9ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1961. It has a classic white dial with the rarer earlier subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The case is immaculate and the 17 Jewel movement is a gem!
Please note, although the diameter of this watch at 32mm was considered a typical gentleman’s size watch in 1961, this watch is perhaps more suited as a ladies watch today.
The dial is a classic Rolex, late 50’s gold over white, ‘3, 6, 9′ dial, with the rarer early subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The dial has the famous Rolex ‘Coronet’ at 12 o’clock and is signed ‘ROLEX’ and ‘PRECISION’ and ‘Swiss Made’, below the ‘6’. The dial is beautifully understated and elegant and easy to read in low light. The original restored gilt ‘Leaf’ hands complete the dial and look simply fabulous.
This is the original dial which has been restored to the very highest standards by our dial restorers which are considered to be the best in the UK. A new lens has been fitted.
The original high quality solid 9ct yellow gold case is in immaculate condition, having been lightly used and very well cared for. Our restorer has carefully checked the case for signs of fatigue or damage and declared it to be in perfect condition. Having then provided some light hand-polishing, the case shows no signs of wear, visible to the naked eye.
The case is of two-piece construction which is quite sturdy and therefore designed for everyday use. The case clicks together very firmly and satisfyingly and the case-back is of full thickness and has never been inscribed. The case measures 32mm in diameter, excluding the signed Rolex crown, and 38mm, including the lugs. We think this size makes the watch perhaps better suited for a lady, given the current trend for outsized gent’s watches. The Rolex Swiss Made case is signed twice with Rolex and with the Rolex Watch Company initials RWC. Also found is the Rolex case reference number 11039 and the correct Edinburgh UK 9ct gold hallmarks, dating this watch to 1958.
As ever, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
The high grade Cal.1200 hand-wound movement is in incredibly clean and sparkling condition. It has just been overhauled and serviced by our expert watchmaker and is running perfectly. These Rolex Cal.1200 movements are very robust and highly regarded for their accuracy and reliability and this movement has been calibrated to run arrow straight within +3 seconds per day! This is no exaggeration – We have checked the test results on our electronic watch time grapher. This movement also has a really excellent 58-hour power reserve when fully wound.
The movement is signed Rolex SA, Geneva Swiss and Seventeen Jewels and marked with the Calibre 1200 and the reference number N63173. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 2-3 years, we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another 60+ years! We therefore have no hesitation in offering this watch with a 12 month written warranty*.
*Please note our 12 months warranty is only applicable if the list price is paid.

A word on our prices… We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
We are happy to accept Paypal as this is the quickest method of payment.
