Here we have a beautifully restored, 9ct vintage Rolex Precision, large sized gentleman’s dress watch in immaculate condition from 1967.  This watch is notable for its high quality ‘Shackman’ watch case made for Rolex in England by D. Shackman & Sons. These are highly sought after watches for the quality of the watch-case and because at 34mm, it is significantly larger than a normal Rolex Precision. Here, the case has a rare, fancy decorated bezel and lugs. The fancy bezel and lugs also add to the ‘presence’ of the watch, all of which make this is a rare and and desirable watch, especially when found in such superb condition. Also, as this watch is dated from 1967, as confirmed by UK London Hallmarks, it would make an excellent 50th birthday present!

The Dial

This watch has the classic Rolex silver white dial, with applied gold baton indices. The dial has the most simple and elegant of looks and is the cleanest and clearest of all the Rolex dial designs. This is the original dial which has been sympathetically restored to the very highest standards by our dial restorers, who are considered to be the best in the UK and this is as fine an example as you are ever likely to see.

The Movement

The original high grade Rolex Calibre 1215 17 Jewels Precision movement is, as can be seen in the photographs, in sparkling condition. The movement has been completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected and rebuilt using original Rolex parts where required, by our vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker. When tested and calibrated on 6th January, this watch was running at +5 seconds per day, which is outstanding for any vintage watch of this age! The movement is all correctly signed ‘MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA’, ‘SWISS’, and ‘SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS’ with the Calibre number 1215 and reference 129. These movements are strong, accurate and very reliable, making the watch is perfectly well suited for regular everyday use. This particular movement is in top condition and with regular servicing every 2 – 3 years, we would fully expect this watch to run very happily for many more decades to come and we are pleased to offer a 12 month warranty on this watch movement*.

The Case

The solid 9ct gold case measures 34mm in diameter, not including the original Rolex crown, making this larger than most Rolex Precisions. This watch case is known as a ‘Shackman’ case, which is of very high quality. Inside the case-back, the markings are all correct for a Rolex case made by one of two U.K. case-makers, signed D.S. & S for David Shackman & Son of Birmingham which are famous for making top quality watch cases for Rolex and other top tier  Swiss watch companies. Also found inside the case-back are the London UK 9ct Hallmarks and the reference number 33837. The hallmarks date this watch to 1967. The case body, case-back and bezel are all in superb condition with no marks or scratches visible to the naked eye. The watch case has been exceptionally well cared for and the has simply required a clean and careful polish to bring it back to its current ‘like new’ condition.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new well matched very high quality brown genuine Lizard skin with a Rolex gold plated buckle. Please note if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin.

The Box and Papers

Although there are are no original papers with this watch, the reference numbers, markings, signatures and hallmarks all correct dating the watch to 1967.

Detailed particulars will be included with the receipt, along with our 12 months Warranty*.  A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale, along with our ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The watch also comes complete with a presentation box as shown in the photographs.

In Conclusion

A highly collectible vintage gold watch from horology’s most famous name which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy! It is a truly top class example of a 1967 vintage Rolex Precision, in amazing condition. The watch is ready to wear and totally practical for everyday use and if treated with care, will make an excellent investment or family heirloom piece.

Even though vintage gold Rolex prices have risen markedly in the past 2 – 3 years, we still feel great examples such as this are undervalued. This is mainly because as each year goes by, the world market for vintage gold Rolex watches is expanding exponentially and so we think prices are destined to climb ever higher in the foreseeable future.

A word on our prices… We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept Paypal as this is the quickest method of payment. However if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you. Similarly if you wish to pay by International SWIFT or Bank Wire Transfer we will provide you our BIC / Swift number and our IBAN number.

*Note – 12 Month warranty only included if the list price is paid.
