Description
Here we have a wonderful example of the classic, gold Rolex Precision dress watch from 1964. The larger sized case and simple 12 batons on an off-white face, make this clean and simple dial typical of the 1960s ‘modern’ Rolex design.
The Dial
This is the original dial which has been restored to the very highest standards by our dial restorers who are considered one of the best in the UK.
The Movement
The watch carries its original high grade hand-wind Rolex Calibre 1215 Precision movement which, as can be seen, is in sparkling clean condition! This movement has been disassembled, cleaned, inspected and rebuilt using original Rolex parts where required by our vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker and when final tested on 7th August, this watch was calibrated and running within 10 seconds per day, which is exceptional for a watch of this age. The movement is all correctly signed ‘MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA’, ‘SWISS’, and ‘SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS’ and the Calibre number 1215. These movements are strong, accurate and very reliable making this watch is perfectly suited for regular everyday use. This particular movement is in A1 condition and with regular servicing, every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run happily for many more decades to come! We are pleased to offer a 12 months warranty on this watch movement*.
The Case
The beautiful three piece 9ct solid gold case and bezel are all in exceptional condition with no marks or scratches visible to the naked eye. This watch case has been very well cared for and therefore the case has simply required a careful clean and gentle polish to bring it back to its current ‘like new’ condition. The outside of the case-back is unmarked and high polished and has never been engraved. The case measures 33mm in diameter, not including the original crown, and so this is a larger sized Rolex Precision. Inside the case-back the markings are all correct for a Rolex case made by one of their two U.K. based case-makers Dennison along with reference number 202453. The case-back also carries Birmingham U.K., 9ct hallmarks which dates this watch to 1964. This will be specified in your detailed written receipt along with all the other particulars of this watch.
The Strap and Buckle
The watch is fitted is a new, high quality brown ‘croc’ leather strap and gold plated Rolex buckle. Please note if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige, free of charge!
The Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, all the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct, dating the watch to 1964. A detailed written receipt, with a 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The matching Rolex presentation box shown above, will be included in the sale.
In Conclusion
This is a truly first class example of the 1960s vintage Rolex Precision and is ready to wear and completely practical for every day use. If treated with care it will make an excellent investment and / or heirloom piece. Even though vintage gold Rolex prices have risen markedly recently, we still feel good examples such as this, are still undervalued. This watch has many more decades of faithful service and as each year goes by and the world market for vintage gold Rolex watches continues to expand, prices will inevitably climb ever higher.
