Description
This is a most elegant gentleman’s 9ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1959 with a wonderful dial and original presentation box and outer sleeve. The classic Gold Rolex Crown and ‘3 6 9’ over white dial is our favourite design. This is a very clean and well cared for example which has undergone some light and sympathetic restoration to bring it back to almost new condition once more.
The watch has a 9K solid gold 33mm diameter case (not including the original Rolex crown), which is in excellent condition. The case is large by the standards of the period. It carries a high grade Cal 1225 hand wind movement which is also in superb condition.
The Dial
This is a highly elegant dial with gold Rolex Crown at 12 o’clock, classic 3, 6 & 9 numerals and gold batons on a creamy white dial with outer minutes markers. The original gold ‘stick’ hands and gold needle seconds hand are all in excellent condition. In addition to the Rolex crown, the dial is simply signed Rolex and Precision. This is a freshly restored dial which has been completed to the very highest standard. The dial is very clear and easy to read in low light. The lens is very clean and unmarked.
The Case
Again this is a highly elegantly designed solid gold three piece case which measures 33mm in diameter not including the Rolex crown. Notably the lugs on this case are very finely sculpted and swept back which raises the watch slightly on the wrist.
The case has been professionally cleaned and lightly polished and is in superb condition. There is little or no evidence of wear and few or no marks visible to the naked eye.
Inside case back all the markings are correct and as expected for a Dennison for Rolex UK made case : ROLEX, MADE IN ENGLAND A.L.D., along with the model ref. 12376 and case serial 438179 number and hallmarks for 9ct, .375 gold.
The Movement
Inside the case, the original high grade Cal 1225 Rolex hand wind movement is very clean and bright. It has just been serviced and is running perfectly. It is again correctly signed ‘MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA’, ‘SWISS’, and ‘SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS’ with the reference 807. These movements are very strong and reliable! This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run very happily for many years to come!
The Strap and Buckle
The strap fitted is a new high quality black croc print leather strap. The buckle is a matching aftermarket Rolex yellow gold plated. Note if a different colour or different style strap is prefered please let us know and we will do our best to provide one free of charge.
The Box and Papers
There are no original papers with this watch. However the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct and date the watch to 1958. A detailed written receipt, with a 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The presentation box shown in the accompanying photographs is offered with the sale.
In Conclusion
This beautiful vintage 9ct gold Rolex Precision is in superb condition, ready for use and is completely practical, useable and wearable today. It is also a great investment, particularly when found in such great condition.
This is also a highly collectable vintage gold watch from horology’s most famous name which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy!
