Here we have the most beautiful and very rare Pink Gold Rolex Precision gentleman’s dress watch from 1953. Pink Gold Rolex watches of this period are very rare and always highly sought after. This watch is Rolex ref. 4516 which has a stepped bezel case and ‘Horn’ lugs, making it much a more substantial and higher quality piece than a normal Rolex Precision. These also add significantly to the ‘presence’ of the watch. Elegant art-deco numerals on an Antique White dial also elevate this piece to something very special.

The Dial

The 1 – 12 applied Pink gilt art-deco numerals with matching Pink gilt ‘Leaf’ hands over an Antique White dial, all match the case beautifully, giving the watch a similar appearance to a Patek Phillipe of the same period.

This is the original dial which has been sympathetically restored to the very highest standards by our dial restorers, considered to be the best in the UK, making this is as fine an example as you are ever likely to see. The original early 1950s ‘Leaf’ hands, complete the unmistakable early 1950s look and charm of this watch.

The Case

The most elegant Rolex 9ct solid Pink Gold case measures 33mm in diameter, not including the Rolex crown. This very rarely found Pink Gold, with the stepped bezel and flared Horn lugs give the case a substantial, high quality appearance, making the watch look a little larger than the actual size. The rounded press-fit case-back is in particularly pleasing condition and clicks back with a pleasingly firm ‘click’. This is a high quality case and it shows. Inside the case-back, it carries the pretty early Rolex scroll signature and RWC, with Swiss Geneva hallmarks and the Rolex reference numbers 4516 and 404, dating the watch to 1953.

Bezels are always prone to damage, however here, the stepped bezel really is in perfect condition, along with the immaculate rounded case-back, indicating the watch has received a great deal of care and very little use. The flared Horn lugs are also notable as they are beautiful in design. They are very nicely swept back, raising the watch a little, making it sit higher on the wrist.

The case has been carefully inspected and lightly polished and is in amazing condition and just like the rest of the case, carries no scratches, dings or any other damage visible to the naked eye. Please note, Pink Gold Rolex watches of this period are not only rare, but the limited use of copper in the Pink Gold alloy means the Pink colour is much more subtle, compared to the Pink Gold used today.

The Movement

This is the original high grade Rolex Calibre 710, 15 Jewels movement which as can be seen in the photographs, is in sparkling clean condition. The movement has been completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected and rebuilt using original Rolex replacement parts where required, by our vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker. When tested and calibrated following its restoration, this watch was running to within 6 seconds per day, which is outstanding for a vintage watch of this age! The movement is all correctly signed ‘ROLEX PRECISION’, ‘SWISS MADE’, and ‘15 RUBIES’ with the Calibre number 710. These movements are strong, accurate and very reliable, making the watch appropriate for regular everyday use. This particular movement is in top condition and with regular servicing, every 2 – 3 years we would fully expect this watch to run very happily for many more decades to come! We are pleased to offer a 12 month warranty on this watch movement*.

*Note – The 12 Months’ warranty is only included if the list price is paid.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new nicely matched Burgundy, high quality genuine Lizard strap with a Rolex gold plated buckle. Please note if a different style or colour of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown burgundy and black in stock, in plain padded leather, alligator, crocodile skin or lizard skin.

The Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with this watch, the reference numbers, markings, signatures and hallmarks are all correct, dating the watch to 1953.

Detailed particulars will be included with the receipt, along with our 12 months Warranty*.  A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale, along with our ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The watch also comes complete with a Rolex presentation box, as shown in the photographs.

In Conclusion

A highly collectable vintage gold watch from horology’s most famous name which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as be something to treasure and enjoy! It is a truly top class example of a c1953 oversize vintage Rolex Precision, in amazing condition. The watch is ready to wear and totally practical for everyday use and if treated with care, this will make an excellent investment or family heirloom piece.

Even though vintage gold Rolex prices have risen markedly in the past 2 – 3 years, we still feel great examples such as this are undervalued. This is mainly because as each year goes by, the world market for vintage gold Rolex watches is expanding exponentially and so we think prices are destined to climb ever higher in the foreseeable future.

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
