Very rare in this condition, this stunning 1965 Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, is in mint condition and is simply breathtaking. The watch is in totally original condition and after a thorough inspection and servicing we can confirm this watch is completely untouched and unmolested save for regular Rolex servicing.

The Case

The fully hallmarked 18K yellow gold case is totally unworn with no scratches or dings. The edges of the case are crisp which demonstrates the case has never been professionally polished. The original 18K yellow gold bezel is sharp and looks as new. The case back is clean and unmarked having never been engraved. Inside the case back there are two hallmarks along with 0750 18K MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA PATENTED 1503. The case size is a large 35mm diameter not including the original Rolex Oyster Crown.

The Dial

The golden dial is totally original and has never been restored or refinished. It is in staggeringly good condition considering its age. Please bear in mind the photographs of the dial are considerably magnified but even so they do not show even the faintest signs of aging. The dial could not be in better condition and look brand new. The exquisite 18K yellow gold dauphine hands are complimented with a gold centre second hand and gold batton hour markers, all in mint condition. The crystal lens is original and completely clear and unmarked.

The Movement

This is the high grade Chronometer Grade 26 Jewels 1503 calibre movement. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is also in mint condition. In fact it looks completely untouched except for professional servicing. It is marked with the movement number 1560, serial number 1107481, SWISS ROLEX SA GENEVA along with the Rolex Crown which is engraved on the rotor. The self winding movement has just been serviced and is running perfectly. It winds both automatically and manually just as it should, it sets perfectly and runs strongly. The movement has been time checked and is running accurately and is now ready for many more years of reliable service. The movement carries a twelve months guarantee. We will be quite happy to provide servicing at a later date.

The case markings, the movement calibre 1560 and the serial number 1107481 are all the numbers correct for this watch, indicating manufacture in mid 1965.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap is a new original Rolex dark brown croc leather, costing £400, which as you see compliments the yellow gold very nicely. The buckle is a matching aftermarket Rolex yellow gold plate.

In Summary – A very special watch indeed.

A new equivalent Rolex 18K dress watch would retail in at around £16,000 today. Further, a 1950s 18K gold Rolex, in a similar condition to this, if one could be found, would be on sale for £9,000 to £12,000 in a Bond Street store or in the Burlington Arcade in Central London.

This 1965 Rolex would make a wonderful special anniversary or birthday gift, or an excellent investment or heirloom piece.

Please note it is very difficult to capture the full beauty of a vintage watch in a series of photographs. Needless to say, this is a very special Rolex which will look even more satisfying to wear.
