I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

Very rare in this condition, this stunning 1973 Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, is in superb condition and the movement simply breathtaking! The watch is in all original condition and after a thorough inspection and servicing we can confirm this watch is completely untouched and unmolested save for regular Rolex servicing.

The Case

The fully hallmarked 18K yellow gold case has no scratches or dings and is in only lightly used condition. The edges of the case are crisp which demonstrates the watch has been well cared for and probably only used as a dress watch. The case has been professionally cleaned and lightly polished. The original 18K yellow gold bezel is in excellent condition. The case back is clean and undamaged with no engraving marks. Inside the case back there are two 18K hallmarks along with 0750 18K MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA PATENTED 1503. The case size is a large 35mm diameter not including the original Rolex Oyster Crown.

The Dial and Crystal

The original gold dial is in beautifully bright and clean condition. It is in exceedingly good condition considering its age. It is also totally original and has never been restored or refinished. Please take a look at the photographs above and below and keep in mind these are highly magnified and even so they only show the faintest signs of ageing. The exquisite 18K yellow gold ‘stick’ hands are complimented with a gold centre second hand and gold batton hour markers, all in mint condition. The crystal lens is also original and completely clear and unmarked.

The Movement

This is the high grade “Superlative Chronometer” 26 Jewels 1570 calibre movement. This movement is known for being highly accurate, reliable and strong. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is exceedingly bright and clean and is in totally mint condition. In fact it looks completely untouched except for professional servicing. It is marked with the calibre number 1570, serial number D534XXX, SWISS ROLEX SA GENEVA and 26 Jewels. The self winding movement has just been serviced and is running perfectly. It winds both automatically and manually just as it should, it sets perfectly and runs strongly. The movement has been time checked and timed and is running accurately and is now ready for many more years of reliable service. The movement carries a twelve months warranty and we will be very happy to arrange servicing for you in two or three years time if you wish.

The case markings, the movement calibre 1570 and the serial number D534XXX are all the numbers correct for this watch, making manufacture in mid 1973.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap is an original Rolex dark brown croc leather, which costs around £300.00 new. As you see this compliments the 18K yellow gold case very nicely. The buckle is a matching aftermarket Rolex yellow gold plate.

What’s Included…

The ‘Buy It Now’ price includes the Vintage Rolex box shown in the photographs and matching original sleeve which is worth approximately £100+. The ‘B.I.N.’ price also includes our 12 months written warranty on the movement. This is detailed on our written receipt. The watch is supplied on 7 days approval i.e. sale or return, 14 days for international customers. This is also detailed on our written receipt. We will also provide you an insurance valuation in case of loss and this will be for the replacement value which we estimate is £6,300.00 Delivery within the UK is also included for free. International delivery is included for £45.00

If the watch is being sent or taken abroad and the warranty isn’t important we will be able to reduce the price a little. Likewise if you would prefer not to take the vintage Rolex box and sleeve.

In Summary – In this exceedingly good condition, serviced and ready to wear, this vintage Rolex is a rare find and great value at this price.

At this price we consider this watch to be exceedingly good value considering new equivalent Rolex 18K dress watch would retail at around £14,000 today. Further, a 1970s 18K gold Rolex in this condition, would be on sale for £6,000 to £9,000 in a Bond Street store or in the Burlington Arcade in Central London.

From an investment point of view, there is no question which is the better buy.

This 1973 Rolex would also make a wonderful 40 years special anniversary or birthday gift, and an excellent investment or heirloom piece.

Please note it is difficult to capture the full beauty of a vintage watch even in a good series of photographs. Needless to say, it is a much more rewarding experience to have and hold the watch and of course, to wear it with pride.
