Description

Here we have simply beautiful, fully restored Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubble Back, in 10ct yellow gold from 1952. This watch has led a truly charmed life as it is in immaculate condition. This is Rolex model reference 6084 and it is the full-sized Bubble Back, being 34mm in diameter as opposed to the earlier 1940s Bubble Backs which were all 32mm. The case-back is also a ‘Full Bubble Back’ as opposed to the Semi Bubble Back and so, as can be seen in the photographs, it has a completely bulbous, round case-back. The original Rolex Super-Oyster crown is fitted which is rare, as this was only manufactured for between 3 and 4yrs and during the early 1950s.

The Dial

The clean and simple elegance of this white dial is classic early ’50’s Rolex at it’s best. The slender gold ‘Willow Leaf’ hands are complimented by the 12 small applied gold faceted baton hour markers around the dial. The centre needle seconds hand sweeps the outer seconds track which is divided by fifths of a second. The early Rolex Crown motif above signed Rolex (the brand) and Oyster (denoting the waterproof case), and Perpetual (denoting the automatic movement). The dial is also signed ‘Officially Certified Chronometer’ indicating the movement qualified as ‘Chronometer’ grade, i.e. highly accurate and highly reliable by COSC the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. This watch is particularly attractive due to its simplicity and benefits from the omission of a date function.  This is the original dial which has been restored to the very highest standards. Our restorers really have made a wonderful job!

The Case

The full Bubble Back case here in solid 10ct yellow gold, is particularly pleasing. Firstly the plain bezel compliments the simplicity and elegance of the dial and it is in top condition. The rest of the case body, the lugs and case-back are also free of any scratches, dings  or marks visible to the naked eye, all of which indicates the watch has had very light use. The full Bubble Back screw down case-back is prone to damage in the form of dents or scratches but here it is perfect. Of course, a great advantage of a 10ct case (made only for the American market), as opposed to an 18ct case, is that it is less prone to dents and scratches as it is a harder case and this has no doubt helped to maintain its looks! Immediately following the full Bubble Back, the mid-1950s half Bubble Back had a less bulbous case back as the automatic movement became smaller. The case measures 34mm, not including the Super Oyster crown.

The case carries Rolex model number 6084 and and the serial number 838,XXX dating the manufacture of this watch to 1952. Inside the case back the markings are all correct for a Rolex Swiss made case, including early Rolex scroll, with Geneva 10ct hallmarks and case model reference.  We have fitted a new Rolex lens just to finish the watch off nicely.

The Movement

The original original high grade “Officially Certified Chronometer” 18 Jewels, Rolex Calibre. 9 3/4” 18 Jewels automatic movement here is in very clean condition and having been overhauled by our vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker it is now running strongly and accurately to within +6 seconds per day fully wound. These watch movements are strong and reliable making this watch appropriate for everyday use. We have no hesitation in offering this watch with our 12 months warranty*. This warranty can be extended to 5 years for an extra £350 including a free service, when this becomes due in 2-3 years time!

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new very high quality Crocodile strap with a Rolex gold plated buckle. Please note if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock and in plain padded leather, or crocodile skin or lizard skin.

In Conclusion

Here we have a highly collectable vintage gold watch from horology’s most famous name which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to wear, treasure and enjoy!

This watch is also a truly outstanding example of a 1952 vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Bubble Back in fully restored condition. It is ready to wear and quite appropriate for everyday use. The beautifully simple white dial with the plain bezel and full bubble back case are in outstanding condition and are a credit to its previous ownership and manufacturer.

If treated with care, this watch will make a sound investment or heirloom piece. Even though vintage gold Rolex prices have risen at around 15% per annum in the past 2-3 years, we still feel good examples such as this, are undervalued and as the world market for vintage gold Rolex watches continues to grow, prices will inevitably climb ever higher.

A word on our prices… We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept Paypal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you.
