Description
In spectacular condition, here we have a fully restored 1955 Black Dial Rolex Oyster Perpetual in 9ct solid yellow gold, with the sought after smoother fluted bezel. Known by Rolex as model 6567, this watch carries the high grade, Cal.1030 Superlative Chronometer (highly accurate and highly reliable) movement. In addition to the early bezel, the other notable feature is that the watch has an original black dial, which has been restored to the very highest standards. This watch is in amazing condition and looks wonderful dressed up with evening wear, or equally well with office or casual clothes.
The Dial
The rare original Black dial here looks superb with original ‘Dauphine’ hands and faceted ‘Spearhead’ hour indices. The original restored hands and needle seconds hand are all in tip-top condition. In addition to the ‘Rolex Crown’ at 12 0′clock, the dial is simply signed ‘Rolex’, ‘Oyster-Perpetual’ and ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ with ‘Swiss,’ at the very bottom of the dial. The Rolex lens is new and therefore has no scratches, marks or damage. Please note, black dial gold watches are a little difficult to photograph and so please excuse any inconsistencies in colour in the photographs, which are due to this.
The Movement
This watch has its original, high grade “Superlative Chronometer”, 25 Jewels, 1030 calibre butterfly movement which is very highly regarded for being very accurate, reliable and robust. It is in superb condition and working perfectly following a thorough overhaul and service by our vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker. This involves completely dismantling the watch movement to each of its component parts, then cleaning and close examination under high magnification. Then replacement where necessary, with only original Rolex parts, before reassembly and fine adjustment to achieve the highest level of accuracy possible. After testing, this watch is now running at +8 seconds/day which is outstanding for any watch of this age. The movement also has a 50-hour power reserve. This watch is now ready for many more decades of reliable service and is perfectly suited for everyday use. The movement carries a 12 month warranty*

The Case
The superb condition original 9ct solid yellow gold case measures 34mm in diameter, excluding the Rolex Oyster screw-down crown. The highly desirable smoother fluted bezel is immaculate, as are the lugs, main case body and case-back, which has never been inscribed. To summarise the condition, there are no scratches, dings or other flaws visible to the naked eye. The case has also not been over polished as many gold watches of this age have been.
The case has been professionally cleaned, carefully examined for any stress marks or areas of potential weakness. The case has then been very lightly polished which was all which was required to bring it back to its current superb condition! Inside the case-back are two Swiss 18ct hallmarks and 18K 0.750. The case is signed Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland with the Rolex Model Number 6567 and the Rolex Case Serial No. 309,241, dating the watch 1955.
Please note, as part of the restoration we have replaced the rubber seals on this case and although the watch was specified as waterproof when new, this has not been tested and this is not guaranteed. Our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, the numbers and markings on the movement, case and case-back are all correct, dating this watch to 1955. A detailed written description and receipt, with a 12-month warranty* and separate insurance valuation (for the replacement value in the event of loss) will be provided at the time of sale. The Strap & Buckle
A new very high quality, hand made, Dark Brown, genuine Crocodile strap has been fitted, along with a gold plated Rolex buckle. However, if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin. We can also obtain most types and colours from our partners at ‘Watch Obsession’ within 48hrs. Please take a look at their huge range of 19mm straps. Please note, the strap we have fitted is a quite expensive, beautiful hand-made crocodile strap which, due to the colour, we feel suits the watch very well. However, it will not suit someone with a larger than average wrist size. Please advise and we will fit one of our standard dark brown crocodile straps, or another of your choice if necessary.
In Conclusion
This is a superb example of a mid 1950′s vintage gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual, in immaculate condition. It is sufficiently different from the norm to be distinctive, yet still classic, and completely practical for everyday use. If treated with care, it will make an excellent investment and heirloom piece, particularly if it remains in such good condition.
Even though vintage Rolex prices have risen recently, we still feel good examples such as this have a long way to go and as each year goes by, the global market for vintage Rolex watches is expanding rapidly with a consequent effect on prices.
In summary, this is a highly collectable vintage watch from horology’s most famous name, ready to wear, use, treasure and enjoy. It will also provide excellent reliability and a sound financial investment as long-lasting as the watch itself!
