Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual 18K 1958

Black Dial, 34mm Solid 18K Yellow Gold Case, in near mint condition.

This very stylish gentlemen’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual wrist watch is now looking superb in fully restored condition. It has the rare black dial which looks particularly rich & elegant matching the 18K solid yellow gold case and bezel perfectly. This watch has been very well cared for and following a thorough inspection and service it is now ready for many more years faithful service.

The Dial The original dial has been expertly refinished to the highest standards and is looking superb, as are the original batons and hands. The lens is clear and scratch free. Please note, any flaws you may see in the photographs are due to light distortion caused by the lens and the particular difficulties in photographing the black dial. Please compare all the photographs to get a correct and full impression.

The Case The case is in flawless condition and following a light careful professional polish, now looks as good as new. The front of the case has the correct matt finish which is often lost through over-polishing. The original fluted 18K bezel is crisp and unmarked. The screw-back is also free of marks and has been lightly polished. Inside the case back are found the correct 18K hallmarks and 18 0.750 and 1803 and is correctly signed MONTRES ROLEX SA, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND PATENTED.

The Movement This watch features the high grade Cal 1030, 25 Jewel Automatic Movement. It has been thoroughly inspected and serviced and is now ready for many more years of faithful service. The movement winds perfectly, automatically and manually exactly as it should and is keeping accurate time. The movement is signed correctly MONTRES ROLEX SA, TWENTY SIX 25 JEWELS, TEMPERATURE ADJUSTED 5 POSITIONS and 1030 with the number N776182.

This watch is offered with a ‘Vintage Gold Watches’ London 12 months written warranty.

The Strap & Buckle A high quality, new ‘croc’ leather, padded strap is fitted with an aftermarket gold plated Rolex buckle.

The Box and Papers There are no original papers with this watch. However the numbers and markings on the watch have been referenced and are all correct dating the watch to 1958. A detailed written receipt with a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The high quality hardwood presentation box as shown is included.

In Conclusion

In this condition this watch represents excellent value, especially considering a new Rolex Oyster Perpetual (18K) would retail at around £16,000 today.

Further, a 1950’s example such as this, in this condition, would command £7,000 to £9,000 in a Bond Street store, or in the Burlington Arcade in Central London.

From an investment point of view, there is no question which is the better choice.

And while this model is very similar to an 18K Rolex Day Date President, it is offered here at around a £1,000 saving.

Note this watch was manufactured in 1958 (proved by the serial number and hallmarks) it would make a wonderful special anniversary or birthday gift as well as an excellent investment or heirloom piece.

Please note it is quite difficult to photograph a black dial watch and the watch looks much better ‘face’ to ‘face’ than in these photographs. It is therefore a much richer and more satisfying experience to have and hold the watch, and of course to wear it with pride…
