Here we have a rare and beautiful, gentleman’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual, 18ct dress watch from 1964. This is Rolex model ref 1005, with the highly accurate and reliable, Cal.1560 26 Jewels, Certified Chronometer Grade, automatic movement.

The Dial

This is the classic, simple and elegant Rolex Oyster Perpetual dial of the 1960s but here in deep blue and the starburst effect dial catches the light wonderfully. The dial is in immaculate condition has the original ‘stick’ hands and baton hour markers which are also in superb condition. The lens new and completely clear and unmarked. This is a really beautiful looking dial and which is difficult capture in these photographs. But needless to say the watch and dial look even better in real life, – especcially on the wrist!

The Movement

The watch carries its original very high grade ‘Superlative Chronometer’ Calibre 1560, 26 jewel automatic movement which is in sparklingly clean condition. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced which involves fully dismantling, ultrasonic cleaning, microscope inspection and replacement of parts as required. Then careful reassembly, oiling and finally testing and calibration. And so the watch is now running perfectly having been calibrated and timed at ± 10 seconds per day. The watch it is now ready for many more years of reliable service. The movement is all correctly signed ‘MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA’, ‘SWISS’, and ‘TWENTY SIX 26 JEWELS’ and the Calibre number 1560. These movements are very strong, very accurate and very reliable! This particular movement is in superb A1 condition and with regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run happily for many more years to come! We are pleased to offer a 12 months warranty on this watch movement*.

The Case

The case, case-back and fluted bezel are all in superb condition with no marks or scratches visible to the naked eye. The watch case has been very well cared for and so the case has simply been gently polished to bring it back to almost new condition. The outside of the case back is unmarked and polished and has never been engraved.

Inside the case back, all the markings are correct for a Rolex Geneva Swiss made case : MONTRES ROLEX S.A, GENEVA SWITZERLAND, R.W.C. LTD reference and correct Swiss hallmarks for 18ct gold, along with the model number: 1005. The model number can also be clearly found on the outside of the case between the lugs at 12 o’clock. The case serial number is found on the outside of the case between the lugs at 6 o’clock and dates the watch to be 1964.

The case has the screw down Rolex Oyster crown and screw down case back complete with new rubber seals.

*Please note our 12 months warranty is only applicable if the ‘Buy It Now’ price is paid.

The strap fitted is a new very high quality dark brown ‘croc’ leather strap. The buckle is a matching an aftermarket Rolex gold plated. Note if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. A genuine Rolex strap can be fitted at the cost price to ourselves of £280.00
