Description

This Rolex ‘Datejust’ 18ct Automatic, has the Cal.1570, Superlative Chronometer Grade (highly accurate and highly reliable) automatic movement with a Date function. This Datejust comes without the magnifying cyclops bubble over the date.

The Dial

Here we have a beautifully restored Rolex black dial with the gold Rolex signature Crown at 12 o’clock along with the Date function at 3 o’clock. This is a rare original black dial which has been restored to the very highest standards. It also has the classic ‘gold Stick’ hands and gold batons marking each hour and small outer minutes track. The dial and gold ‘stick’ hands are all in immaculate condition. In addition to the signature Rolex crown, the dial is simply signed Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust along with Officially Certified ‘Superlative Chronometer’ and ‘Swiss’ at the very bottom of the dial. The mint condition heavy duty lens has no marks and is without the magnifying cyclops bubble seen on other models and this gives the dial a much cleaner look.

The Case

This is the original Swiss hallmarked 18K solid gold case, measuring 36mm in diameter without the crown. The case has an unmarked fluted bezel and highly polished full thickness case-back showing it has never been inscribed. In fact all of the case is in immaculate condition having simply been lightly cleaned and carefully polished. Inside the case-back are two Swiss 18ct hallmarks and 0.0750 18K. Also MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA SWITZERLAND and the model number 1601.

The Movement

This watch has the original high grade “Officially Certified Superlative Chronometer” 26 Jewels, 1570 calibre movement which is very highly regarded for being particularly accurate, reliable and strong. It is in truly mint condition and is working perfectly following a thorough inspection and service by our watchmaker. It is signed MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA and TWENTY SIX JEWELS, ADJUSTED FIVE POSITIONS. The movement carries the correct movement number D18452 and the calibre number 1570. And so the movement has been calibrated and timed and is running strongly and accurately at around + 10 seconds per day and is now ready for many more years of reliable service. The watch is offered with twelve months warranty on the movement*. *The 12 months warranty is only applicable if the Buy It Now price is paid.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new very high quality black croc print leather strap. The buckle is a matching aftermarket Rolex yellow gold plated. Note if a different colour or different style strap is preferred please let us know and we will do our best to provide one free of charge.

The Box and Papers

There are no original papers with this watch, however the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct, dating the watch to 1964. A detailed written receipt, with a 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The Rolex presentation box shown in the photographs is included in the sale.

*Note 12 months warranty is only applicable if the listed price is paid.

In Conclusion

This is a superb example the iconic gent’s early 1960s vintage Rolex in 18ct gold and in immaculate condition. It is a completely practical and ready for wear as an everyday watch. And treated carefully it is also an excellent investment or heirloom piece, particularly when found in such superb condition. And even though vintage gold Rolex prices have risen recently, we still feel good examples such as this are undervalued. And as each year goes by and the world market for vintage gold Rolex watches continues to expand, this means prices will climb ever higher. So this is a highly collectable vintage gold watch from horology’s most famous name which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy!
