This Rolex ‘Day Date’ 18ct Automatic has the Cal.1556, Superlative Chronometer Grade (highly accurate and highly reliable) automatic movement with Day and Date function. The dial is the rarer ‘Pink’ dial which you will see is primarily silver white with a hint of pink in natural light – as shown in the first and second photographs. The Rolex Oyster case with its screw down crown and screw down case-back made the Rolex Day Date the world’s first waterproof automatic wristwatch with Day and Date functions, also to offer “complete protection against water, perspiration and dust”. This watch is all 100% original including the dial which is in superb condition and yet it has not been restored and untouched. The case is the large size 36mm and is in mint, unrestored condition. This all leads one to suspect this watch has only been lightly used and has been very well cared for.
Here we have the beautiful original Rolex ‘Pink’ dial Day Date with the gold Rolex signature Crown at 12 o’clock along with the Day function. As you will see, the dial is primarily silver white with a slight pink tone in natural daylight. This is a rare original dial which has been restored to the very highest Rolex standard. With Classic ‘Stick’ hands with batons denoting each hour, plus small outer minutes track. All on the rarer pink dial, with the Date function at 3 o’clock this is all Classic 1960-1980s Rolex design. The superb, rarer, restored ‘Pink’ dial and gold ‘stick’ hands are all in immaculate condition. In addition to the Rolex signature Crown, the dial is simply signed Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day Date and Officially Certified ‘Superlative Chronometer’ and ‘Swiss’ at the very bottom of the dial. The dial is very clear and easy to read even in low light. The mint condition heavy duty lens has no marks and a 2.5 x magnifying glass making the date easily readable at arm’s length.
This is the original Swiss hallmarked 18K solid gold case, measuring 36mm in diameter without the crown. This watch has an unmarked fluted bezel and highly polished full thickness case-back showing it has never been inscribed. In fact all of the case is in immaculate condition having been received a professional clean and careful light polish. Inside the case-back are two Swiss 18ct hallmarks and 0.0750 18K. Also MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA SWITZERLAND and the model number 1803.
This is the original high grade “Officially Certified Superlative Chronometer” 26 Jewels, 1556 calibre movement which is highly desirable for being particularly accurate, reliable and strong. It is in truly mint condition and is working perfectly following a thorough inspection and service by one of our Master Watchmakers. It is signed MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA and TWENTY SIX JEWELS, ADJUSTED FIVE POSITIONS. The movement carries the correct movement number 3543XXX and the calibre number 1556. And so the movement has been calibrated and timed and is running strongly and accurately at around + or minus 5 seconds per day and is now ready for many more years of reliable service. The watch is offered with twelve months warranty on the movement*. *The 12 months warranty is only applicable if the Buy It Now price is paid.
The Strap and Buckle
The strap fitted is a new very high quality black croc print leather strap. The buckle is a matching aftermarket Rolex yellow gold plated. Note if a different colour or different style strap is preferred please let us know and we will do our best to provide one free of charge.
The Box and Papers
There are no original papers with this watch, however the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct, dating the watch to 1972. A detailed written receipt, with a 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The Rolex presentation box shown in the photographs is included in the sale. *Note this watch is offered with 12 months warranty if the listing price is paid.
