I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

A very rare and large Omega Seamaster ‘Oversize’ Day Date in 9ct yellow gold from 1970. At 37mm, excluding the original Omega crown, this is by far the largest Omega Seamaster produced at the time, as typical sizes for this watch were 34 and 35mm and occasionally 36mm. This is also a substantial case, similar in fact to the design of a Rolex Day Date President, but larger! This watch also comes with its original Omega 9ct Bracelet which is integral to the watch. The watch and bracelet are in amazing condition leading us to believe this watch has led a very charmed life!

Dial

The style is classic 60’s / 70’s which is very popular and has been for the past few years. The gold dial with gold batons is inlaid with black Onyx, as are the ‘stick’ hands. The date at 3 o’clock is advanced by a quickset mechanism, activated by pulling the crown past the hand set stage. The watch glass has been replaced with the correct Omega part with the Omega sign in the centre, which can just be picked out in certain light.

This is the original dial which has been restored to the highest standards.

Movement

The very high grade Cal.752, 24 Jewels movement, is on par with watches of twice the price. The watch is signed Omega Watch Co, Swiss with the serial number 29,463,xxx dating this watch to 1970. This is the same movement as used in the top of the range Omega Constellation of the same period and is very highly regarded, accurate and reliable. Here, the movement is in absolutely sparkling condition and in fact, is as good as the day it was made! We have tested the movement following a full service and it is running within +5 seconds / day which is outstanding for any watch of this age. We are therefore very confident in offering this watch with our 12 months’ written warranty*.

Please note – Our 12 months’ Warranty is only applicable if the list price is paid.

Watch Case

As mentioned above, the 9ct solid gold case is very large and substantial at 37mm, not including the original Omega crown. The watch case is in immaculate condition with no marks, scratches or dings visible to the naked eye. The 9ct yellow gold of this particular watch has a particularly attractive antique hue which you do not see on a modern gold watch.  This is hard to replicate in the photographs, but be assured it looks wonderful in real life! The wide flat bezel is also interesting on this watch and exemplifies the size of the watch. Inside the watch case-back is signed Omega Watch Co with the reference number 1665032 and London UK 9ct hallmarks from 1971 indicating the year the watch was imported and probably first sold in the UK. This watch case was waterproof when new and all the rubber seals have been replaced. However, this has not been tested and it is not guaranteed.

Please note, as ever our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

Bracelet & Buckle

The original integral Omega 9ct gold bracelet is also included with this watch. It is in amazing condition with no marks or damage. It is adjustable to three positions and is perfect for an average man’s size wrist of between 18 to 20 cm or 7.5 to 8 inches. The bracelet is optional, so if you prefer, we will be happy to remove it and fit a Crocodile or Alligator strap of your choice. We will also reduce the price by £300.

Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with the watch, the numbers and markings are all correct, dating this watch to 1970/71. A detailed written receipt with 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

A matching vintage Omega presentation box is included in the sale.

In Conclusion

This is a splendid and rare example of the iconic Omega Seamaster watch, with the very rarely found 37mm 9ct gold case and original matching 9ct Omega bracelet. The movement is of a very high grade and on a par with watches far more expensive than this. Indeed when this watch was new, it would have cost more or less the same as the equivalent Rolex Day Date. Omega Seamaster watches are highly collectable, which along with the reasons above, means the value will continue to rise.

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring these to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you. Similarly, if you wish to pay by International SWIFT or Bank Wire Transfer we will provide you with our BIC / Swift number and our IBAN number.
