Description

Here we have an absolutely beautiful example of the famous Omega Seamaster, gent’s automatic dress watch from 1958.  This watch, model 2448 SC, has the most wonderfully attractive two tone dial. Inside the watch is found the Omega Calibre 501 automatic movement which one of the best automatic movements available at the time and was also fitted to the Omega Constellation the flagship model at the time and to this day.

The Dial

The Omega ‘3 -6 -9’ design with arrowhead hour markers and `Dauphine’ hands is one of our very favourite 1950’s watch dial designs. When as in this case, we are looking at an Omega Seamaster with a ‘two tone’ dial, we have an overall design which we think is one of the best and one we never tire of looking at.  The dial is signed ‘Omega Seamaster’, ‘Automatic’, and below ‘6’ – ‘Swiss Made’ at the very bottom of the dial. Please take a close look at the photos of this fabulous dial – this is the original dial and is in top original condition! If you take a careful look at the centre of the dial you will see the watch is fitted with the correct Omega lens with the Omega watermark in the very centre.  This is a very classic looking 1950’s Seamaster. The silver and white dial catches the changing light beautifully which is difficult to capture to this effect in our photographs, although we have done our best!  It is a beautifully elegant design and in our eyes, one of the best Omega Seamasters  money can buy.

The Case

The model 2848 SC with the heavier 14ct solid yellow gold Swiss made case is in superb original condition, and has only required careful hand polishing to bring it back to it’s current superb condition. The very solid waterproof (design) press-down case-back carries the Seamaster emblem which is sharp and unworn. The case and case-back show very few signs of wear indicating the watch has been very carefully and very lightly used. The case measures 34mm in diameter, not including the Omega signed crown – Inside the case back bears the Omega Watch Co. branding and FAB SUISSE and two Swiss 14ct .585 hallmarks, along with the case reference number 426624. The case has no scratches, marks or dings visible to the naked eye and although originally specified as water proof, this has not been tested and is not guaranteed – Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times!

The Movement

The original very high grade Cal.501 20 Jewels Automatic Movement is in sparkling pristine condition, and following a thorough service is running perfectly. It is signed Omega Watch Co. Swiss, 20 Jewels, 501, and with serial number 16346017 dating the manufacture to 1958. The movement winds, runs & sets smoothly and is working perfectly and keeping excellent time. The Cal.501 movement is highly regarded for it’s accuracy and reliability. It was the first Omega automatic movement to feature a rotor design rather the bumper design power the movement and it was designated ‘Chronometer Grade’ when fitted to the top of the line Omega Constellation range.

Following a full overhaul and service by our watchmaker , it has been calibrated to run arrow straight within ±10 seconds / day! This watch is offered with a 12 months warranty*.

The Strap and Buckle

The watch is complimented with an Omega brown ‘croc’ leather strap with gold plated Omega buckle. However, if you would prefer a black Omega strap please let us know and we will be happy to fit one for you.

This watch comes with an original vintage Omega presentation box as shown and although there are no original papers, the watch will be supplied with a detailed written receipt and 12 months warranty*. In Conclusion

We unreservedly recommend this watch and promise you, you will never be sorry you bought it!
