Highly Recommend
The service from Vintage Gold Watches was as per usual Fantastic, the watch arrived when expected and was extremely well packaged as usual. The watch was even nicer than the photos and went straight onto my wrist. Another fantastic acquisition for my growing collection. VGW is the first and so f

I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

A fully restored range topping Omega Constellation in 18ct solid yellow gold from 1966, making this the perfect 60th birthday or special anniversary gift!  The watch has a noticeably heavy, 37mm diameter case which carries the Omega Constellation emblem on the outside of the case-back. This is very distinct, showing the watch has seen only light occasional use. It also has the screw-back case with seals in place (originally) making it water resistant to 30 metres*.

The Dial

A mint, silver / white dial – with raised signature gold OMEGA logo + “Constellation, Automatic Officially Certified Chronometer” at 12 o’clock, and below 6, – ‘Swiss Made’ at the bottom of the dial. Raised, applied gold batons with black onyx inserts. The original gold hands are in excellent condition and a new Omega centre signed lens has been fitted. Please take a close look at the photos of this fabulous dial. It is the original dial which has been restored to a very high standard. Under indoor artificial lighting the dial looks silver and in daylight it can look white.

The Case

In superb condition and lightly polished, the 18ct solid Gold case has a waterproof screw-down back* It measures approx 42mm lug to lug and 37mm diameter, not including the Omega signed crown. This is extraordinarily large for any watch of this period and especially for an Omega Constellation, making this watch very rare!

Inside the case-back, bears the Omega Watch Co. triangle and the name OWC, along with three 18ct hallmarks for 1966. One of the lugs also bears a Hallmark – Also inside the case-back, are correct Omega model reference numbers – 1685004, and 378309

The case is in wonderful condition showing only minor signs of use commensurate with careful occasional use. The outside of the case-back has the famous 18ct ‘Observatory’ emblem which is in highly original, hardly worn condition – See photos for details of this superb case, especially the Constellation on the back. The Observatory Emblem is  often worn away to a greater or lesser degree, and sometimes greatly so. Here it is distinct and crisp indicating this watch has had little use.

*Originally specified as Water Resistant to 30 metres. This has not been tested and is not guaranteed. Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

The Movement

The very high (chronometer) grade copper-toned Omega calibre .561, 24 jewels automatic movement, with date function looks pristine and carries the serial number 26,4xx,xxx, making the the date of manufacture of this watch 1966. The actual serial number will be provided when you contact us and on the sales receipt.  The movement has just been fully overhauled and serviced by our vintage Omega guru watchmaker and it is calibrated to run arrow straight within + 7  second / day! This is no exaggeration. We have checked the test results from an electronic watch test instrument. We therefore have no reservations in providing 12 months written warranty with this watch*

*Note – 12 Month warranty only included if the list price is paid.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new nicely matched very high quality large size Hirsch dark brown crocodile skin strap with an Omega gold plated buckle. Please note, if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock, in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin. New Omega straps are available in many styles and colours starting at £100. Please let us know your preferences.

The Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with this watch, all the numbers and markings on the watch are correct, dating the watch to 1966. Our fully detailed written receipt with full details of the watch, including all the numbers will be provided, along with your 12 months warranty*. A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will also be provided at the time of sale.  A matching vintage Omega presentation box such as the one shown in the photographs, can be included in the sale of this watch at our cost price. We have a good selection of genuine 1960s vintage Omega presentation boxes starting from £50.00 and rising to £200.
