Description
In fully restored condition, this is the iconic top of the range Omega Constellation from 1968 in solid 18ct yellow gold. The watch has the 18ct Omega Constellation emblem on the back which is still crisp and only very slightly worn and this indicates the watch has only been lightly used. It also has a screw-back case with seal in place (originally) making it water resistant to 30 metres*.
The Dial
Mint, Black Dial – with applied gold OMEGA logo + name Constellation, Automatic Officially Certified Chronometer at 12 o’clock – below 6 – ‘Swiss Made’ at bottom. Raised, applied gold batons with black inserts – the original gold hour, minute and sweep seconds hands are in excellent condition – Omega signed Crystal is in good condition. Please take a close look at the photos of this fabulous dial, which is the original dial, and which has been restored to the very highest standards.
The Case
The superb condition, lightly polished 18ct solid Gold case with waterproof screw down back* – measures approx 42mm lug to lug and 36mm diameter, not including the Omega signed crown – Inside the case-back bears the Omega Watch Co. triangle and name OWC 18 along with three hallmarks for 1968. One of the lugs also bears a Hallmark – The case carries the reference numbers 886 – 152995.
The case has been professionally cleaned and polished and has no scratches or marks or dents of any kind. The back has the famous Constellation logo which is in highly original, lightly worn condition – See photos for details of this superb case, especially the Constellation on the back. This is usually worn to a lesser or greater degree and is often missing completely. Here it is distinct and crisp.
*Originally specified as Water Resistant to 30 metres. This has not been tested and is not guaranteed.
The Movement
Omega copper-toned calibre 565 Automatic, looks pristine – Twenty Four 24 jewels – serial number 34033003 which denotes the date of manufacture as 1968. Winds, runs & sets smoothly and is in very good working order, keeping good time. Signed Omega Watch Co Swiss – Twenty Four 24 jewels – and Cal. 565 Adjusted 5 Positions.
This movement has a Quick Set Date function meaning you can advance the date by pulling the crown out a further click to advance the date quickly by one day. By pushing back and pulling it out again you can advance the date by 30 days in less than 30 seconds, much more convenient than earlier movements which required the hands to be moved forward 24 hrs to advance the date by one day.
This watch has just been fully overhauled and serviced by our Omega guru and it is calibrated to run arrow straight within + or – 5 second / day! This is no exaggeration. We have seen the test results from an electronic watch test instrument and in its half wound state this watch is running accurately within 5 seconds per day!
Strap and Buckle
The watch is complemented with a very high quality ‘croc’ leather strap with an aftermarket gold plated Omega buckle. If a new Omega strap is preferred, this can be fitted for an extra £40.
Box and Papers
This watch comes with an original vintage Omega presentation box as shown. Although there are no original papers, the watch will be supplied with a detailed written receipt and 12 month warranty*. A separate written valuation for insurance purposes will also be included.
