I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

Here we have a very rare Ladies 18ct yellow gold Omega Constellation of just 24mm in diameter, yet it contains a very high grade Omega Calibre 682, 24 Jewel, Chronometer grade automatic movement, with a date function and a 50-hour power reserve! The case is a miniature version of the gent’s Constellation with a solid three-piece case and screw-down case back, with the Constellation relief. The amazing two-tone black and golden brown dial gives the appearance of a distant planet against the backdrop of space, as seen through a telescope. This watch was made at the time when Omega was at its peak in terms of the quality of its in-house movements and this is a superb example especially when found as here, in an 18ct gold case, in tip-top condition.

Dial

The two-tone dial is highly unusual and quite fascinating. It has the appearance of the view through a telescope of a distant planet, surrounded by the darkness of space. The golden yellow in the centre gradually changes to a dark brown and then black at the outer edges. This is highly unusual. We are unsure if the ‘planet look’ was intended, as very few of these watches were made and even fewer with this dial, so references are hard to find. Whatever the concept, it is a highly attractive dial. The dial carries applied gilt baton hour indices, which are matched with the original ‘Index’ style hands. The dial also carries the applied Omega brand at the top of the dial and is signed ‘Omega Automatic Chronometer’. At the bottom, the dial carries the applied Star and the Constellation signature. The dial is totally original and unrestored and yet is still in tip-top condition.

Movement

The watch carries its original high grade Cal.682, 24 Jewel movement, which as can be seen in the photographs, is in sparkling clean condition. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced. This means it has been completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected and rebuilt using original Omega parts where required, by our vintage Omega specialist watchmaker. When tested and calibrated, this watch was running to within +10 seconds per day, which is outstanding for any vintage watch of this age! When fully wound, this movement has an excellent 50-hour power reserve. The movement is all correctly signed ‘Omega Watch Co’, and ’24 Jewels’, with the Calibre number 682 and the Serial number 26,250,873, dating this watch to 1968.

The movement has a date function with a semi-quickset feature, meaning the hands can be advanced and reversed between 9 and 12 to advance the date by one day.

These movements are strong, accurate and very reliable, making the watch perfectly appropriate for regular everyday use. This movement is in top condition and with regular servicing, every 3 years we would fully expect this watch to run very happily for many more decades to come! We are therefore more than pleased to offer a 12-month warranty on this watch movement* and regular servicing in the future.

*Please note – our 12 months’ warranty is only applicable if the full list price is paid.

Watch Case

The original 18ct yellow gold, three-piece watch case is of sturdy solid construction and is of a similar design to the gent’s Omega Constellations of the time, but in miniature. The screw-down case back carries the Constellation ‘Observatory’ relief which is hardly worn, indicating this watch has been only very lightly used. The watch case is in immaculate condition with no marks, scratches or dings visible to the naked eye. The case is a good size 24mm, excluding the original Omega crown. This watch case was waterproof when new and all the rubber seals have been replaced. However, this has not been tested and is not guaranteed. As ever, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new nicely matched high quality Brown leather strap with a gold plated buckle. If a different style or colour of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige, free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown burgundy and black in stock, in plain padded leather, alligator, crocodile skin or lizard skin.

The Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with this watch, the reference numbers, markings, signatures and hallmarks are all correct, dating the watch to 1968.

Detailed particulars will be included with the receipt, along with our 12 months’ warranty*. A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale and our ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The watch also comes complete with the matching vintage Omega presentation box as shown in the photographs.

In Conclusion

A rather special and rare vintage gold ladies watch from one of horology’s most famous names, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy!

This is a truly top class example, in immaculate condition with an original dial. The watch is ready to wear and totally practical for everyday use. If treated with care it will make an excellent investment or family heirloom piece. Even though vintage gold Omega prices have risen markedly in the past 12 months, we still feel great examples such as this are still undervalued, because as each year goes by, the world market for vintage Omega watches is expanding almost exponentially. So we think prices are destined to climb ever higher in the foreseeable future.

A word about our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before restoring these to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach inevitably means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are a number of well-known stores in West London which are very successful, charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you wish to pay by bank transfer, we will be pleased to pass on a 3% transaction saving to you.
