Description

One of our very favourite watches and found here in tremendous condition. This rare and substantial 18ct yellow gold Jaeger-LeCoultre automatic from 1957 has a beautiful dial, a very high quality 35mm screw-back case and an early bumper automatic movement. All in immaculate condition throughout!

The Dial

A stunning french white dial with classic cross hairs and date window at 3 o’clock and subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The dial is signed, with “Jaeger LeCoultre, Automatic, Swiss Made” The dial specification is completed with a rare, alternating black on white and white on black date wheel. This is the original dial for this watch, which has been restored to the very highest standards and really is superb!

The Case

The substantial 18K yellow gold 35mm diameter case is in superb condition. This is a three part screw-back construction case with no scratches, dings or wear marks visible to the naked eye. This particular JLC has obviously been very well cared for and has received no heavy or long-term regular use. The case is noticeably heavy and bears external and internal 18K hallmarks along with the case number A700732.

This is an important model from one of the worlds very finest watch makers. The very fine early automatic movement, matched with the beauty, style and pure class of this watch, makes this a highly sought after model, especially when found in this condition. For us, this watch has it all –  JLC, 18K, auto, mid-50’s charm, large diameter white dial, date and sub seconds, all in superb original condition!

This watch has been thoroughly overhauled  and serviced in mid-May 2015 and then tested. The power reserve is 44hrs and the movement is running accurately to within 10 seconds per day. This is considered outstanding for a vintage watch of this age.
