I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

Owning a vintage IWC is something everyone with a serious interest in vintage watches should aspire to. A bold statement, but time spent researching IWC and their ’50s and 1960s watches will lead one to this conclusion. In essence, this is because during the 1950′s and 1960s, IWC determined they would manufacture some of the very best watches ever made and quite simply, this is what they achieved! The craftmanship, technical excellence and sheer beauty of their exquisite movements and cases made during the ‘golden age’ of watch-making, has never been beaten.  – Equalled, perhaps, maybe … but not beaten!

An IWC is often referred to as the ‘watchmaker’s watch’. This is due to the technical excellence and beauty movements and consequently their popularity amongst – watchmakers…

The watch offered here is truly unique in seeming to have have little or no real use. We are tempted to call it N.O.S. or New Old Stock though we feel this is a somewhat over used expression. However, the watch case has never been polished and has little or no signs of use which could not be removed very simply with a light hand polish with a polishing cloth.

The Movement

The highly advanced automatic IWC offered here is powered by the Albert Pellaton designed Calibre 8531 movement. This mechanism’s automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise – Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed the 8531 “one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland.” The famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, stated that IWC’s special automatic winding mechanism was “a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished.” IWC built it in 1962 at the same they were building their famous Ingenieur line.

The movement has been fully overhauled by a Master Watchmaker, winds extremely smoothly, and is running within +5 seconds per day. We are of course highly confident in offering a 1 year warranty on this movement.

The Case

The 34mm full size heavy duty case presents on the wrist as mint with no ageing. Indeed the case has never been polished and yet looks superb. These IWC Automatic dress watches dress watches were more elegant than the pragmatic IWC Ingenieur but shared the high-performance timekeeping qualities in normal wearing conditions. Compared to an Ingenieur, because they do not have a second inner back, the cases are thinner and lighter on the wrist. It is however still a heavyweight and very high quality 18ct Pink Gold case. Pink Gold vintage watches are always particularly rare and it was not used as often as today but Pink Gold IWCs are very rare and hard to find! The watch case is in truly spectacular original condition and presents as mint condition on the wrist. All parts are original including the all important and hard to find IWC signed winding crown.

The Dial

The beautifully understated silver white dial with date function is completely original and untouched, meaning no refinishing. In fact we do not believe the lens has ever been removed.  The dial is signed with the infinitely more attractive earlier, International Watch Company, Schaffhausen signature. The ‘stick’ hands and centre seconds hand are again in mint condition… This leads all one to believe one is wearing a completely  new watch!

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a new high quality Hirsch black ‘croc’ leather strap and IWC gold plated buckle.  Please note if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock and in plain padded leather, or crocodile skin or lizard skin.

The Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with this watch, all the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct, dating the watch to 1962. A detailed written receipt, with a 12 month warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. A matching Rolex presentation box will be included in the sale.

In Conclusion

This is a truly first class example of a 1962 Pink Gold IWC dress watch which is ready to wear and completely practical for every day use. If treated with care it will make an excellent investment or heirloom piece. IWC has always and will always command huge respect in the high end watch market. Consequently prices are always rock solid and are never undersold. We are therefore sure this will make a great acquisition for any collector or very proud wearer to treasure and enjoy!
