Description
This is really nice, rare, large sized gents, Rolex Precision dress watch, with a 9ct solid gold Rolex Oyster case manufactured in 1951. The watch has its original high grade Cal.710 Super Balance movement which is in superb condition and running strongly and accurately following a recent thorough overhaul and service by our expert watchmaker. Unusually this Rolex Precision has a Rolex Oyster case which is much heavier and stronger than the usual Rolex Precision case. This case has a screw down case-back and Rolex Oyster crown. This means the watch is much more resistant to water and dust.
The Dial
Beautiful gold Rolex crown at 12 o’clock and gold numerals and arrow head batons on a pearl-white dial with original restored gold ‘radium’ hands* and blued-steel centre seconds hand, all in superb condition. The dial is signed Rolex, Oyster and ‘Shock Resisting’. The gold crown, and green luminous hands, catch the light beautifully against the background of the pearl-white dial. This is the original dial which has been expertly restored to the very highest standards. *The hands and hour markers have been restored with a modern luminous compound which is both luminous and safe!
The Case
This watch has been very well cared for during its past 63 years and the original 9ct solid yellow gold case is in excellent condition with no marks dings or scratches visible to the naked eye. It measures a large 34mm in diameter not including the original Rolex crown. This watch has the Rolex Oyster crown and screw down case-back which made the watch waterproof when new. Inside the case back are found the model reference number 6022 along with Geneva Swiss 9ct hallmarks along with the beautiful Rolex signature and R.W.C. Ltd. The case has been professionally cleaned inside and out and then very lightly and carefully polished to bring it back to near new condition.
Please note vintage watches should always be kept clean and dry and never considered to be waterproof, no matter what the original specification.
The Movement
This is the original high grade Cal.710 hand wind Super Balance movement which is very clean and in well maintained condition. It has just been serviced by our expert watchmaker and it is running perfectly. It is signed Rolex Precision, Swiss Made and 17 ‘Rubis’ and marked 710. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another 50 years. We are therefore very confident in offering this watch with a 12 months written warranty*.

The Strap and Buckle
A very high quality, new black ‘croc’ leather, padded strap and gold plated Rolex buckle is included.
The Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, the numbers and markings on the case back are all correct dating the watch to 1951. A detailed written receipt, with a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The presentation box shown in the accompanying photographs is offered with the sale.
In Conclusion
We are always excited to find a vintage gold Rolex of this quality and condition. And this a nice early ’50s example which has been lightly used and well cared for. During recent weeks the watch has been sympathetically restored and serviced and made ready to provide many more years of faithful use..
So this is a highly desirable vintage watch from horology’s most famous name and will prove an excellent investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy!
