I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

Here we have a most elegant 9ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1961 with the classic ‘3, 6, 9’ dial, gilt numerals and arrowhead indices.

Please note – although the diameter of this watch at 32mm was considered a typical sized gentleman’s watch in 1961, it is perhaps more suited as a ladies watch today.

The Dial

This is the classic early ’60’s Gold on White, ‘3, 6, 9′ dial. The dial has the famous Rolex ‘Coronet’ at 12 o’clock and it is signed ‘ROLEX’ and ‘PRECISION’ and ‘Swiss Made’, below the ‘6’. The dial is very clean and easy to read, even in low light and is beautifully understated and elegant, in the ‘Explorer’ style. The original restored gilt ‘Leaf’ hands and centre seconds hand, complete the dial and are simply fabulous. A new lens has been fitted. This is the original dial which has been restored to the very highest standards by our dial restorers which are considered to be the best in the UK.

The Case

The professionally restored, solid 9ct yellow gold case is in excellent condition, having been very well cared for and shows hardly any signs of wear, visible to the naked eye. The two-piece case clicks together very firmly and satisfyingly and has never been inscribed. The case measures 32mm in diameter, excluding the Rolex crown and 38mm, including the lugs. We think this makes this watch perhaps better suited for a lady, given the current trend for outsized gent’s watches. The Rolex Swiss Made case is signed twice with Rolex and with the Rolex Watch Company initials RWC.  Also found are the Rolex case reference numbers 21645 and the correct Edinburgh UK 9ct gold hallmarks, dating this watch to 1961.

As always, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

The Movement

The high grade Cal.1210 hand-wound movement is in incredibly clean and sparkling condition. It has just been overhauled and serviced by our expert watchmaker and is running perfectly. These Rolex Cal.1210 movements are very robust and highly regarded for their accuracy and reliability and this movement has been calibrated to run arrow straight within +9 seconds per day! This is no exaggeration – We have checked the test results on our electronic watch timer. This movement also has a really excellent 58-hour power reserve when fully wound.

The movement is signed Rolex SA, Geneva Swiss and Seventeen Jewels and marked with the Calibre 1210 and the reference number 72936. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 2-3 years, we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another 60+ years! We therefore have no hesitation in offering this watch with a 12 month written warranty*.

*Please note – our 12 months’ warranty is only applicable if the list price is paid.

Strap and Buckle

A high quality, new Dark Brown Crocodile leather strap is fitted with a gold plated buckle. However, if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock, in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin. We can also obtain most types and colours from our partners at ‘Watch Obsession’ within 48hrs. Please take a look at their huge range of 19mm straps if you wish here.

Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with the watch, the numbers and markings are all correct, dating this watch to 1961. A detailed written receipt with 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The presentation boxes shown in the accompanying photograph are included in the sale.

In Conclusion

This is a superb, highly collectable and usable vintage watch from horology’s most famous name, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as be something to treasure and enjoy! It will make an excellent dress watch as well as a practical, accurate and reliable timepiece to use on an everyday basis.

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you. Similarly, if you wish to pay by International SWIFT or Bank Wire Transfer we will provide you with our BIC / Swift number and our IBAN number.
