Here we have a most elegant 9ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1961 with the classic ‘3, 6, 9’ dial, with gilt numerals and arrowhead indices. Please note, although the diameter of this watch at 32mm was considered a typical sized gentleman’s watch in 1961, it is perhaps more suited as a ladies watch today.
This is the classic early ’60’s gold on white, ‘3, 6, 9′ dial. The dial has the famous Rolex ‘Coronet’ at 12 o’clock and it is signed ‘ROLEX’ and ‘PRECISION’ and ‘Swiss Made’, below the ‘6’. The dial is very clean and easy to read, even in low light and is beautifully understated and elegant, in the ‘Explorer’ style. The original restored gilt ‘Leaf’ hands and centre seconds hand, complete the dial and are simply fabulous. A new lens has been fitted. This is the original dial which has been restored to the very highest standards by our dial restorers which are considered to be the best in the UK.
The professionally restored, solid 9ct yellow gold case is in excellent condition, having been very well cared for and shows hardly any signs of wear, visible to the naked eye. The two-piece case clicks together very firmly and satisfyingly and has never been inscribed. The case measures 32mm in diameter, excluding the Rolex crown and 38mm, including the lugs. We think this makes this watch perhaps better suited for a lady, given the current trend for outsized gent’s watches. The Rolex Swiss Made case is signed twice with Rolex and with the Rolex Watch Company initials RWC. Also found are the Rolex case reference numbers 21645 and the correct Edinburgh UK 9ct gold hallmarks, dating this watch to 1961.
As ever, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
The high-grade Cal.1210 hand-wound movement is in incredibly clean and sparkling condition. It has just been overhauled and serviced by our expert watchmaker and is running perfectly. These Rolex Cal.1210 movements are very robust and highly regarded for their accuracy and reliability and this movement has been calibrated to run arrow straight within +9 seconds per day! This is no exaggeration – We have checked the test results on our electronic watch timer. This movement also has a really excellent 58-hour power reserve when fully wound.
The movement is signed Rolex SA, Geneva Swiss and Seventeen Jewels and marked with the Calibre 1210 and the reference number 72936. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 2-3 years, we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another 60+ years! We therefore have no hesitation in offering this watch with a 12 month written warranty*.
*Please note our 12 months warranty is only applicable if the list price is paid.

It will make an excellent dress watch as well as a practical, accurate and reliable timepiece to use on an everyday basis.
A word on our prices… We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
