Description
Here we have the most elegant gentleman’s 9ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1951 with the classic subsidiary seconds dial and ‘12,3 6 9’ gold over silver-white.
Note the watch is of a mid size for its period at 31mm diameter not including the crown. The watch has been thoroughly checked, cleaned, serviced and is ready for use.
The high grade 15 jewel movement is running strongly and accurately. To finish the watch we have added a new, very high quality black ‘croc’ leather strap. This 1951 watch was made soon after the introduction of the new Rolex Shock-Resisting movement as promoted on the dial.
The Dial
This is the classic gold over silver white early 1950’s ‘3 6 9’ dial with subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. It carries the Rolex crown and is signed ROLEX and Shock-Resisting. It is a beautifully understated and elegant dial with late art deco hints and looks just fabulous.
The Case
The professionally polished solid 9ct gold case is in excellent condition and has only minimal signs of wear – the press fit flat case-back clicks into place very satisfyingly and has never been inscribed. The case measures just over 31mm wide, excluding the crown and 38mm, including the lugs. The watch case was made in England by Dennison for Rolex. The inside of the case-back is signed A.L.D. for Dennison and Made in England for Rolex with the Dennison case reference 12857 and the correct 9ct gold hallmarks and the Rolex serial number 703213 daring the watch to 1951.
The Movement
The high grade ’15 Rubis”‘ Rolex signed, hand wound movement has just been serviced and is running beautifully. It is twice signed ROLEX’, ‘SWISS MADE’ and carries the reference number 40469. These movements are very strong and reliable and seem to last forever! It is very clean and with regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run without any problems for many years to come!
The Strap & Buckle
A new high quality, new black ‘croc’ leather strap is fitted to the watch with a gold plated Rolex buckle. These original 18ct Rolex buckles are rare as they often go’missing’ when people buy new straps for their Rolex.
Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with the watch, the numbers and markings are all correct, dating it to 1951 and a detailed written receipt, with warranty and a separate insurance valuation for replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The Rolex presentation box shown in the photographs is included..
