I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

Here we have a simply delightful 9ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1953 with the classic ‘1 – 12’ dial. The applied gilt numerals, original ‘Leaf’ hands and original unrestored dial are all in tip-top condition.

Please note – although the diameter of this watch, at 31mm, was considered a typical sized gentleman’s watch in the 1950s, it is perhaps more suited as a ladies watch today.

The Dial

This is the classic Gold on White 1950′s ‘1 – 12’ dial, which is quite rare to find on a 31mm Rolex Precision. The dial has the famous Rolex ‘Coronet’ at 12 o’clock and is signed ‘ROLEX’ and ‘PRECISION’ with ‘Swiss’, below the ‘6’. The dial design is very clean, simple and easy to read, even in low light and is very typical of the early 50’s and late 40’s style.

Generally, we restore the dials of a watches we offer here, but every now and again we happen across a dial, in such good original condition, we decide on balance, it is better to leave it alone rather than restore it. Here is such a dial, in absolute top original condition. All we have found necessary is give it a very gentle clean to remove any dust and light marks. This has revealed a very clean original dial, free from any damage caused by the usual fading, pitting or scratches we see on a dial of this age. It is remarkable that a dial from 1953 has survived so unscathed.

The Case

The professionally cleaned, inspected and lightly hand-polished, solid 9ct yellow gold case, is in excellent condition, having been very well cared for. It shows only the faintest signs of wear, hardly visible to the naked eye. The press fit case-back clicks into place very satisfyingly and it is of full thickness and has never been inscribed. The case measures 31mm in diameter, excluding the unsigned crown and 38mm including the lugs.  This in our view, makes the watch better suited for a lady, given the modern trend today for outsized gent’s watches.

Please note – matching original Rolex signed crowns for this watch are currently in short supply, but we do have one or two in stock. If you wish, we will be able fit one for you for an additional £100.00. This will take just a few days.

The case was made in England, by Dennison for Rolex and inside the case-back is correctly signed: ‘Dennison’ and ‘Made in England for Rolex’.  Also found on the inside of the case back are the case reference numbers 12325 and 562718 and the correct Birmingham UK 9ct gold hallmarks, which date this watch to 1953.

Please note, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

The Movement

The high grade Cal.710, 15 Jewel hand-wound movement is in incredibly clean and sparkling condition. It has just been fully overhauled and serviced by our expert vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker and is running perfectly. These Rolex Cal.710 movements are highly regarded for their accuracy and reliability and this movement has been calibrated to run consistently at +8 seconds per day! This is no exaggeration – We have checked the test results on our electronic watch timegrapher. This movement also has an excellent power reserve of 48 hours, when fully wound.

The movement is signed Rolex, Swiss Made and 15 Rubies (Jewels) and is marked with the Calibre number 710 and the reference number 82147. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 2-3 years, we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another 60+ years! We are therefore very confident in offering this watch with a 12 month written warranty*.

Please note – our 12 months’ Warranty is only applicable if the list price is paid.

Strap and Buckle

A high quality, new Dark Brown Camel Grain leather strap is fitted with a gold plated buckle. However, if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock, in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin. We can also obtain most types and colours from our partners at ‘Watch Obsession’ within 48hrs. Please take a look at their huge range of 16mm straps if you wish here.

Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with the watch, the numbers and markings are all correct, dating this watch to 1953. A detailed written receipt with 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The presentation box shown in the accompanying photograph is included in the sale.

In Conclusion

This is a superb, highly collectable and usable vintage watch from horology’s most famous name, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as be something to treasure and enjoy! It will make an excellent dress watch as well as a practical, accurate and reliable timepiece to use on an everyday basis.

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment.
