Rolex Oyster Chronomètre, Ref. 2595. Produced circa 1948, this is a very fine, robust, tonneau-shaped, water-resistant, 9K yellow gold ladies / unisex wristwatch, carrying a highly accurate 18J, adjusted to 6 positions, Chronometer grade movement. At 29mm, this is a very small watch by gents’ standards today even though this may have been sold as a gents’ watch originally.
The ‘art deco’ style original white dial with 1 – 12 Arabic numbers in lemon/green with an outer minutes and seconds track is full of style and charm. The original leaf hands and centre seconds hand have been beautifully restored, as has the dial itself, to the very highest standards.
The watch is fitted with its original highly accurate Cal.10’’’, 18 Jewels, adjusted to 6 positions Chronometer grade, super balance movement, all of which means this watch is highly accurate and highly reliable. The movement has been restored by our vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker and we are confident in offering this watch with a 12 months warranty*, which can be extended if required.
*Note – 12 month warranty only included if the list price is paid.
The 9ct Rolex Oyster Tonneau shaped case measures 29mm, making this watch a gents’ or boys’ watch when originally produced. Today this watch is probably more suitable as a ladies’ watch, due to current trends for larger watches of 33/34mm size and up. The very high quality original 9ct Oyster case has a screw-back and screw-down Oyster crown, making the watch waterproof when new. Please note, although specified as waterproof when new, water can be very cruel to vintage watches and so we cannot guarantee the watch is still totally waterproof today. We therefore always recommend all vintage gold watches should be kept clean and dry at all times. Nevertheless, this is a very robust case making the watch more than capable of withstanding quite the rigours of everyday use.
Strap and Buckle
The watch is fitted with a Dark Brown Crocodile strap in a man’s medium size. If a different colour, style or size of strap is required we will do our best to oblige without any additional charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock, in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin, but can also obtain most types and colours from our partners at ‘Watch Obsession’ within 48hrs.
Box and Papers
Although there are are no original papers with this watch, the markings and serial numbers are all correct, dating it to circa 1948.A detailed written receipt with 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.
A matching Rolex presentation box is included in the sale.
This is a rare and fine example of an early Rolex Oyster Chronometer which has a particularly interesting ‘art deco’ dial, as well as a highly accurate and reliable movement. Having the Oyster case with a screw-down back and screw-down Oyster crown makes the watch far more impervious to the rigours of everyday use and having been fully restored by ourselves, means this watch is now ready for reliable service for many more generations to come.
As this watch is made by horology’s most famous name, it will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy and even though prices continue to climb, we still feel gold Rolex watches from this period are still undervalued, because as each year ticks by, the world market for Swiss vintage gold watches is growing exponentially, meaning prices are likely to remain on their current steep trajectory.
Payment and Delivery
A word on our prices… We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring these to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
We are happy to accept Paypal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you.
