Here we have fine example of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Air King Precision in 9ct yellow gold from 1962.
This is Rolex model reference 5500 and it is a rare watch when found as it is here in solid gold and particularly with the Cal.1520 26 Jeweled movement.
Rolex Air Kings have a history dating back to the end of the 2nd World-War when the victorious RAF pilots were honored by Rolex founder Hans Wildorf with a series or aviation themed watches, one of which was the Air King and this model survives until this day.
The watch is in immaculate original condition with a superb original unrestored champagne dial. The bezel, case body and case back are also in top condition with no scratches, dings or marks visible to the naked eye. All of which indicates the watch has had very light use or very careful ownership and probably both!
The movement is particularly shiney and sparkling, in fact rather new looking, showing it has been maintained very well and has not suffered from damp or water ingress. The Cal.1520 movment is particularly strong, accurate and reliable, meaning this watch is perfectly suitable for everyday use even today. And as the movement has just had a thorough ovehaul and service we have no hesitation in offering the watch with 12 months warranty. And this can be extended to up to 5 years if requested, for £150 per year. And if you take the full 5 years warranty, we will provide a free service, when it becomes due in 4 years time!
Just prior to this listing this watch was computer tested and in various positions and it is running strongly and accurately within close to 10 sesconds per day.
And so to summarise here is rare watch in great original condtion which could prove to be even better aquisition than the ‘ususal’ vintage gold Oyster Perpetual!
