I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Omega Watches

Since the company was founded in 1848, Omega pioneered a huge range of innovations. Britain’s Royal Flying Corps chose Omega watches in 1917 as its official timekeepers for its pilots. Again in 1940, RAF Pilots watches were supplied by Omega. The 40s also saw the first tourbillon wristwatch and the first of the famous Seamaster watches, whilst the 50s and 60s introduced the legendary Constellation, Speedmaster, Seamaster 300 and Railmaster. Over these years, everyone from John F Kennedy to Elvis wore Omega watches on official duties. What’s more, in 1962, astronaut Wally Schirra took his Omega Speedmaster to space on NASA’s Mercury Sigma 7 mission, and in 1969 two Speedmasters landed on the moon worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Watch Description

Here we have a fully restored early Omega Seamaster Calendar 18ct Pink Gold 1st non-bumper automatic from 1956 which has a very fine heavyweight 34mm case. This watch carries its original Calibre 503 movement which is so highly efficient, you will likely never need to wind it because the movement has an outstanding power reserve of 46 hours. A very expensive and fine quality watch when new, being one of very few 18ct Pink Gold, Omega Reference 2849SC  models, recently restored, this particular watch is in amazing condition from every aspect.

The Dial

A beautiful classic ’50s Omega featuring a slightly off-white dial with original pink gold ‘Dauphine’ hands and applied original faceted batons and date window at ‘3’. Please take a closer look at the photos of this fabulous dial as it is so stylish and to our eyes looks simply fabulous. This the original dial which has been restored to the highest standards by the best dial restorers in the UK.  A new Omega centre signed lens has been fitted.

The Case

Early Omega Seamasters in 18ct pink gold are very rare and this example in particular and in such wonderful condition is certainly one of very few to be found. This very lightly polished, large and noticeably heavy 18ct solid Gold case with very solid swept back lugs measures 34mm in diameter, not including the correct, early Omega signed pink gold crown. The case is in amazing condition showing no signs of wear visible to the naked eye and even under a loupe it is very hard to fault.  Inside the press-fit case-back* bears the correct Omega Watch Co. triangle, the Omega model Reference 2849SC and Swiss 18ct Hallmarks. As this is an early Seamaster, the case-back does not carry the Seamaster relief.

*Although all the rubber seals have been replaced as part of the restoration and this watch was originally specified as Water Resistant to 25 metres, this has not been tested and it is not guaranteed – Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

The Movement

This very high grade copper-toned Omega calibre 503, 20 jewels automatic movement, with date function looks pristine and carries the serial number 15783461, dating this watch to 1956. 1956 saw the introduction of the first non-bumper automatic, meaning the rotor is free to rotate through 360 degrees. This movement was also used in the top of the line Omega Constellation and is so highly efficient and with a 46 hour power reserve, meaning once set and on your wrist you will never need to wind it even if you leave it on the bedside table over the weekend. Indeed the 500 series has proven over time to be the most precise and indeed the most celebrated movement series in the history of the Omega company. The success of the series 500 owes much to its tremendous reliability and a number of ingenious improvements, amongst which is the self-winding mechanism. The movement has just been fully overhauled and serviced by our vintage Omega specialist watchmaker and it is calibrated to run arrow straight within + 8 second / day! This is no exaggeration. We have checked the test results on our electronic watch time grapher and therefore have no reservations in providing 12 months written warranty with this watch*

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a nicely matched very high quality Dark Brown ‘Croc’ Omega leather strap with an Omega gold pink plated buckle. Please note, if a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock, in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin. New Omega straps are available in many styles and colours starting at £150. Please let us know your preferences.

The Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with this watch, all the numbers and markings on the watch are correct, dating the watch to 1956.

Our detailed ‘Particulars’ document will be included, with the our detailed receipt and our 12 months Warranty*. A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value of this watch will also be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The vintage Omega box shown in the photographs is included and this alone values at £250.00  If this is not required, a square red vintage Omega box similar to, and as seen in most of our other listings, will be included free of charge and £150 will be deducted from the price of the watch. If no box is required £250 will be deducted.

In Conclusion

Omega Seamasters, especially of this period are very highly collected among vintage aficionados of the brand. This is a beautiful watch and if you proceed with its purchase, we promise you that you will be so pleased you bought this watch! From every aspect and no matter how closely you look, it is immaculate and cannot be faulted. If you wish to buy a Classic, Rare, Vintage, 18ct gold Omega then this one ticks all the boxes and it comes with a solid 12 months guarantee!

This is a superb, highly collectable and useable vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy! It will make an excellent evening wear dress watch  as well as a practical, highly accurate and reliable time-piece to live with on an everyday basis. Omega Seamasters, especially of this period are very highly regarded amongst aficionados of the brand, but however you may wish to view this, as every year goes by the world market for vintage gold watches is growing ever larger and the limited supply, allied to high demand, means prices will inevitably climb ever higher!

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you. Similarly if you wish to pay by International SWIFT or Bank Wire Transfer we will provide you our BIC / Swift number and our IBAN number.
