I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Description

This is a beautifully presentable example of an early 14ct gold Omega Seamaster, gent’s dress watch from 1950. The Omega Seamaster was first released in 1948 and has remained in production ever since! This is a particularly early watch from 1950 when the number of gold Omega Seamasters sold would have been a very small fraction of those seen at later dates. This therefore is a very rare and desirable watch!

The Dial

The 3, 6, 9, 12 ‘Explorer’ type dial has been beautifully restored and looks simply wonderful. The applied gold arrow head hour makers and gold numerals all have a high polish, as do the original Dauphine hands. The Explorer dial design, is one of our favourites and is so called because the dial looks like a compass! This is the original dial which has been restored to the highest standards by the best dial restorers in the UK. We think he has done a wonderful job here!

The Case

It is immediately apparent that this Omega Swiss made, 14ct solid gold case, is designed for strength! The wide bezel, the substantial lugs and the beautifully designed screw-back along with the depth of the case, all give the watch a particularly robust appearance. As with all earlier Seamasters, there is no emblem on the case-back. The screw-back is a particularly nice two piece, fused together design which contributes greatly to the water resistance of this watch**. The inside of the case-back caries all the correct Swiss 14ct hallmarks, ‘Fab Suisse’ and the model number 2577, along with case reference number 10,998,xxx. This case is very clean and crisp and shows no signs of wear with no dings or scratches visible to the naked eye. This all indicates the watch has very seldomly been worn.

** Water resistance has not be tested and is not guaranteed. – Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times!

The Movement

The original high grade, cal.351 17 Jewels Bumper automatic movement, uses a rotor which arcs backwards and forwards between two ‘bumper’ springs to wind the watch. This was a standard design perfected by Omega at the time and was in common use with other manufacturers including Jaeger LeCoultre and Zenith. When the watch is moved, one can very gently feel and hear the rotor bouncing between its two bumper springs.

The movement has been given a full overhaul including a service by our watchmaker.  The movement carries the serial number 12,275,xxx which dates this watch to 1950. The full serial number and full particulars of the watch will be detailed on the sales receipt, along with our 12 months warranty and our ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’. *We are happy provide a 12 month warranty on this watch.

*Note – 12 Month warranty only included if the list price is paid.

Strap & Buckle

A new high quality, black crocodile strap has been fitted, along with a gold plated Omega buckle. ***If a different colour or style of strap is preferred we will do our best to provide your choice, at no extra charge.

Box and Papers

Although there are are no original papers with this watch, the markings and serial number are all correct, dating it to 1950. A detailed Vintage Gold Watches Certificate and detailed written receipt with our 12 months warranty will be provided with the watch, along with our Vintage Gold Watches ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’. The vintage Omega presentation box in the photographs, is also included in the sale.

In Conclusion

This is a superb, early example of the iconic Omega Seamaster watch, which is particularly interesting and rare!  The movement is of a very high grade and on a par with watches far more expensive than this. Indeed when new, this watch would have cost more than the equivalent Rolex. Omega Seamaster watches are highly collectible and the rarity of this watch means the value will always remain strong.
