I have no hesitation in recommending.
From start to finish the service I have received has been excellent. Kirsty has kept me informed all the way and the level of the finished repair to a very old and worn vintage watch was exemplary.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

Omega Watches

Since the company was founded in 1848, Omega has pioneered a huge range of innovations. The 40s saw their first luminescent ladies’ watch, their first tourbillon movements and the famous Seamaster, whilst the 50s and 60s introduced the legendary Constellation, Speedmaster, Seamaster 300 and Railmaster. Over these years, everyone from John F Kennedy to Elvis wore Omega watches on official duties. What’s more, in 1962, astronaut Wally Schirra took his Omega Speedmaster to space on NASA’s Mercury Sigma 7 mission, and in 1969, the Speedmaster first landed on the moon.

Watch Description

Here we have a top class, fully restored Omega Automatic in 18ct solid yellow gold from 1965. Omega watches are known for having superb watch movements and this model carries the 24 Jewel, Calibre 711, which was one of their finest. This is a watch you will likely never need to wind or reset since it has such a highly efficient automatic winding mechanism and an outstanding power reserve of 42 hours. It is also supremely reliable, all of which making this watch very easy to live with on a day to day basis. The watch has a rare 29mm square case which is actually quite large when one considers the corner to corner diagonal, which is 40mm.

The Dial

A beautifully restored classic ’60s Omega slightly off-white dial with original gilt ‘Fils’ hands and applied gilt batons. Please take a close look at the photos of this beautiful dial as the restoration is absolute perfection. This is the original dial which has been restored to the highest standards by the best dial restorers in the UK.  A new Omega lens has been fitted.

The Case

In just beautiful condition and only ever gently polished, this quite rare and quite heavy square cased Omega Automatic has a certain touch of class and is the perfect gentleman’s dress watch for evening or everyday wear. While at 29mm square, excluding the Omega signed crown, this is not a large watch compared to say one of the larger 36mm Omega Constellations, at 40mm corner to corner across the diagonal this is also not a small watch.

The case is a two piece design with a very solid case back which acts as a mounting for the movement. The bezel and frame for the lugs sit on top of the case back and click very securely into place.

The case is in wonderful condition showing no scratches dings or other imperfections visible to the naked eye.

The outside of the case-back carries two hallmarks on either side of the crown. Inside the case-back, all is as it should be with the Omega Watch Co. triangle, the correct Omega model reference number 161024, the case serial number 981064 and Swiss Geneva 18ct Hallmarks.

The Movement

The original very high-grade copper-toned Omega Calibre 711, 24 Jewels, automatic movement is in sparkling condition and shows every sign of having been perfectly maintained.

The movement carries all the correct markings including the signature: Omega Watch Co Swiss, the Calibre number 711 and 24 Jewels. The movement also carries the serial number 22,713,984 which dates the manufacture of this watch to 1965.

The movement has just been fully overhauled and serviced by our vintage Omega specialist watchmaker and is calibrated to run arrow straight within 9 secs/day which is excellent for any watch of this age. We have checked the test results on our electronic watch timegrapher and therefore have no reservations in providing 12 months written warranty with this watch.*

The power reserve is specified as 42hrs and this has been tested to confirm this. If the watch is left for more than this, then one just needs to reset the time in the normal way and simply wear the watch. It will then fully wind itself very quickly.

Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

*Please note – our 12 months’ warranty is only included if the list price is paid.

The Strap and Buckle

The strap fitted is a perfectly matched tapered, high-quality genuine Crocodile strap with an Omega gold plated buckle. If a different colour or style of strap is preferred, please let us know and we will do our best to oblige free of charge. We carry tan, conker, dark brown and black in stock, in plain padded leather, crocodile skin or lizard skin. New Omega straps are available in many styles and colours starting at £150. Please let us know your preferences.

The Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with this watch, all the numbers and markings on the watch are correct, dating the watch to 1965.

Our detailed ‘Particulars’ document will be included, with our separate detailed receipt and our 12 months Warranty*. A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value of this watch will also be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.

The original vintage, Omega presentation box included in the photographs is included.

In Conclusion

Vintage Omega watches are highly regarded for their great quality and highly accurate/reliable movements which are always of a very high standard.

If you are thinking of acquiring a top class vintage, 18ct gold Omega dress watch and you like the classic, yet individual, square dial and case then this watch is a perfect choice and it comes with its original box, our very comprehensive documentation and our solid 12 months guarantee! It will make an excellent evening wear dress watch as well as be a practical, highly accurate and reliable timepiece to wear on an everyday basis. It is a superb, highly collectable, top class vintage gold watch from one of horology’s most famous names, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy!

Omega watches of this period are very highly regarded amongst aficionados of the brand, but however you may wish to view this, as each year goes by and the world market for vintage gold watches grows ever larger, the limited supply allied to high demand, means prices will inevitably climb ever higher!

We are sure you will never be disappointed you bought this watch. From every aspect and no matter how closely you look, it is immaculate and cannot be faulted.

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you. Similarly, if you wish to pay by International SWIFT or Bank Wire Transfer we will provide you with our BIC / Swift number and our IBAN number.
