Description
Since the founding of Jaeger-LeCoultre, this venerated Swiss watch house has had a very inventive history developing over 1,249 mechanical calibers and registering over 400 patents, playing a tremendous role in the development of the industry as a whole. Whether it is the keyless watch, caliber 101, or the iconic Reverso, it would be difficult to imagine a historical account of watchmaking without the mention of Jaeger LeCoultre.
Here we have a full size 33mm Jaeger-LeCoultre gentleman’s dress watch from 1964. Notable features are the stunning ‘starburst’ dial’ one of the very best hand wound movements available and the exceedingly high quality water and dustproof case. The watch has been fully restored by ourselves and is currently available with 12 months warranty.
The Dial
The original Jaeger signed starburst dial is a thing of beauty and has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standardsn by one of the best dial restorers in the UK. The applied gold hour batons along with the original gold hands provide the softest contrast to the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case.
The way the dial catches the light in varying conditions is simply wonderful and much better than the photographs convey. The dial is signed ‘Jaeger-LeCoultre’ and ‘Swiss’.
The Case
This full size 33 mm case is in amazing condition with no signs of wear visible to the naked eye. The case is of exceedingly high quality being constructed in only two pieces to improve the water, humidity resistance of the case. The inside case is signed ‘Le Coultre Co Swiss’ and the case number is 2759848. It also has the appropriate hallmarks for solid 18ct gold.
The Movement
Jaeger movements are amongst the highest quality in the world and this Jaeger signed manual wind is in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The movement is signed ‘Jaeger Le Coultre Swiss’, ‘Fab Suisse’ and the calibre is 885. The movement number is 2075348.
he Strap
High quality brown lizard skin leather strap which is very stylish and we feel matches the watch perfectly. However if you have a preference for another colour or style of strap we will do our best to oblige without any extra cost. Note, we are happy to fit any strap from the Hirsch range from our partner site, www.watchobsession.co.uk
Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, a detailed written receipt, and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The numbers on this watch match and date this watch to 1964 and will be quoted on your receipt for your security. The watch comes with a high quality hardwood presentation box. The watch is sold on 14 days no quibble sale or return and with 12 months warranty.*
In Conclusion
This is a simply wonderful piece of vintage gold watch Jaeger-LeCoultre which we have been proud to restore, present, and offer here for sale. It’s many more times more stylish than the modern equivalent watch and even though it is now a half century old, it is still completely fresh and reliable practical to wear as your everyday watch should you wish, but mostly it’s a thing of beauty, some would say, ourselves included, a work of art, from one of the most prestigious names in Swiss watch-making. Should you wish to view it this way, it is also an excellent investment and heirloom piece, as well as something to treasure and enjoy, and as each year goes by and the world market for vintage gold watches grows ever greater, limited supply and high demand from the Far East, means prices will climb ever higher!
Please note, all vintage watches should be kept away from water and dust at all times. Even though a watch may have been specified as water-proof when new, we do not test for this and it is not guaranteed. All the rubber seals have been replaced during the restoration of this watch but due to the age of the watch it may not be watertight.
This is a beautiful example of a classic vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and if treated with care, will remain an excellent investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy.
